Most people who live in mid-latitudes or places in the far north will say this is irrelevant, but even though freezing temperatures in Monterrey are a rare ocurrence, they are not unheard of. If the clouds were partially covering icy trees in the mountains, it could've snowed if it wanted to, but it just didn't. Living in the mountains guarantees cooler temperatures year round, so for the first time in three years the cars had an icy layer for four days in a row. It all started on Friday, Jan 8, that was the coldest day in Monterrey. The next day I went to Mario's party, it was 10 PM and the cars had ice on top, Saturday night was the coldest night in my house, by Sunday morning it was -3.3 Celsius outside, (about 26 Farenheit). On Monday morning it was 6 degrees in Monterrey, and the cars had ice on top again.
You can never tell if the difference in temperature between Monterrey and where I live is 2 degrees less or 8 degrees less. I've seen one degree more than what the TV says it is in Monterrey (what is caled a thermal inversion) and 9 degrees less.
The last time the temperatures fell below freezing was after it snowed on Dec 24, 2004, on Christmas morning.
